I have met Ch. Prabhakar Rao garu, a senior advocate and alumnus of Govt. High School (Training College) during my last visit to Rajahmundry in February 2017. He belongs to the 1972 batch of our school. One of my friends (Anil) have forwarded his advertisement published in Samacharam news paper (click here) and I have contacted him to know about their activities and contribution to the school development.
Prabhakar Rao garu explained that their batch alumni are contributing to the school from several years. He informed he and his friends especially Vittobha Maharaj garu and Chekka Trinadh garu visit the school teachers and students on a regular basis.
The main issues raised by Prabhakar Rao garu during this discussion are:
1. They are organizing extra classes for X-class students for gear them up for the final examinations however some of the students who come from poor families were unable to withstand for extra hours because of poor nutrition and diet. They are currently contributing some snacks also during these extra classes.
2. They have contributed for the development of school park and also built some statues of eminent personalities and alumni.
3. They are conducting competitions, mentoring students, awarding school toppers and offering scholarships to the poor.
4. Addressed the need to bring in all alumni together to form as a trust to support the school. Currently, several batch alumni are contributing to the school individually on a smaller scale however to uplift the school on a larger scale, it is essential to form a bigger group and formally establish an alumni trust.
5. I have explained the success of forming such an alumni trust and a website for SKVT school (my primary school) and suggested him to do the same for our school also.
6. Agreed initially to build up the alumni via social network and other contacts, and arrange a meeting in a couple of months to formalize the plan.
Overall, it was a fruitful discussion and I have also attended the school annual day celebrations on the next day upon his request to know the contribution of their batch and other alumni. I have reported the details of this event also in this blog in a separate post (click here).
