Report - School Annual Day Celebrations: 2016-2017

The prestigious Government High School for Boys (Training College) celebrated its 134th Annual Day on 17th February 2017. Kurnool S.P. Ravi Krishna garu, an alumnus of 1980 batch and City Commissioner Vijarama Raju garu attended as chief guests. Alumni from various batches (even from 19030s-1940s) attended.

The Head Master of the school presided over the meeting and informed about the students achievements during the past 2-3 years. He also mentioned the various developmental activities taken up with the support of Alumni and the Government.

The chief guests and alumni presented awards and prizes for the class toppers and winners in sports.

City Commissioner Vijayarama Raju garu appealed the Alumni to get together and consolidate their efforts to uplift the school into an advanced educational institution. He was fascinated to know that it is one of the oldest institutions in South India with a glorious history of 134 years. He mentioned if the school teachers and Alumni can come up with some good ideas to develop the school, playground, etc or to develop it as an historical monument, he can extend his support to speak to corporate companies in Rajahmundry such as ONGC, GAIL, International Paper and obtain funds from CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programme.

Kurnool S.P. Ravi Krishna garu delivered an inspirational speech telling his past experiences in the school and the discipline imbibed to students by great teachers like Koteswara Rao garu. He sang an energetic song also to enlighten the students on the imporatance of netradaanam (eye donation).

I have also attended the celebrations on the request of Ch. Prabhakar garu, a senior advocate and a 1972 Alumnus of the school. I was very delighted to see a lot of alumni supporting the school and the fervor of school teachers in leading the school with utmost dedication. I spoke in the meeting and informed that our batch (1995) will also extend support to the school. I have advised the students to study well and learn good habits at this age. I have also advised the school administration and students to be proactive and come up with their needs and address it to the Alumni.

Overall, there was a consensus among the guests that alumni from various batches need to put their effort together in uplifting the school to a next stage. This e-mail is one of the attempts to spread the news on a wider network (social media) and bring in more alumni to support the school.

My humble request to the alumnus who view this e-mail, is to submit your contact details (address, phone number and e-mail address). If you have any whatsapp group (or a Facebook page, etc) for your batch, please inform us so that I will try to consolidate the list. From our side (batch 1995), we have consolidated the Alumni list (English Medium) and trying to bring in the Telugu Medium batch also here.

Kurnool S.P. Ake Ravi Krishna IPS's motivational Speech during Training College Annual Day Celebrations

Kurnool S.P. A Ravi Kumar garu, alumnus of prestigious Govt High School (Training College) , Rajahmundry, attended the school Annual Day Celebrations on 17-02-2017 as the chief guest. His down-to-earth attitude, his wonderful speech informing about his school experiences, teachers and also his energetic singing on stage about netradaanam (Eye donation) are motivational. Unfortunately the whole speech was not captured due to power failure but a few notable things of his speech:

1. Donated a bicycle to one of the toppers (He himself rides a bicycle to his work and daily activities - Somebody commented him as real "Srimanthudu" during the meeting)
2. Talked about Koteswara Rao master and one of his experiences while attending his tuition.
3. Given valuable suggestions to the children.

City Commissioner Vijayarama Raju appeals Alumni to get united for Training College Development

Rajahmundry City Commissioner garu attended Govt High School for Boys (Training College) annual day celebrations on 17/02/2107 as a chief guest. He applauded the alumni's support in protecting the grand heritage of the oldest institution in the state and also appealed to all Alumni to get united to build this school as a monumental place in Rajahmundry

Meeting with Ch. Prabhakar Rao garu (Senior Advocate and Alumnus of Govt. High School (Training College) - 1972 batch

I have met Ch. Prabhakar Rao garu, a senior advocate and alumnus of Govt. High School (Training College) during my last visit to Rajahmundry in February 2017. He belongs to the 1972 batch of our school. One of my friends (Anil) have forwarded his advertisement published in Samacharam news paper (click here) and I have contacted him to know about their activities and contribution to the school development.

Prabhakar Rao garu explained that their batch alumni are contributing to the school from several years. He informed he and his friends especially Vittobha Maharaj garu and Chekka Trinadh garu visit the school teachers and students on a regular basis.

The main issues raised by Prabhakar Rao garu during this discussion are:

1. They are organizing extra classes for X-class students for gear them up for the final examinations however some of the students who come from poor families were unable to withstand for extra hours because of poor nutrition and diet. They are currently contributing some snacks also during these extra classes.

2. They have contributed for the development of school park and also built some statues of eminent personalities and alumni.

3. They are conducting competitions, mentoring students, awarding school toppers and offering scholarships to the poor.

4. Addressed the need to bring in all alumni together to form as a trust to support the school. Currently, several batch alumni are contributing to the school individually on a smaller scale however to uplift the school on a larger scale, it is essential to form a bigger group and formally establish an alumni trust.

5. I have explained the success of forming such an alumni trust and a website for SKVT school (my primary school) and suggested him to do the same for our school also.

6. Agreed initially to build up the alumni via social network and other contacts, and arrange a meeting in a couple of months to formalize the plan.

Overall, it was a fruitful discussion and I have also attended the school annual day celebrations on the next day upon his request to know the contribution of their batch and other alumni. I have reported the details of this event also in this blog in a separate post (click here).
